The many paths I have traveled enrich my work as a therapist. I identify as an Autistic, Chicanx, cis-bisexual-woman. I became a parent by way of adoption.
My homelands are the Sonoran Desert. I grew up in a small city on the Arizona-Mexico border, in a richly layered borderlands lifeworld. It was also a world fraught with colonizing tensions--the assimilating pressures of the overculture, the repressive bindings of the church. At 18, I left home looking for answers to questions I didn't even know how to ask. I have taken different routes to exploring the answers, from anthropology to philosophy and science. My questions have also led me to spiritual and healing paths, including Zen Buddhism, traditional Mexican healing, and Earth-centered devotions. My big questions eventually led me to my doctoral studies in counseling psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. All along the way, I have been mentored and guided by community healers, teachers, and activists who taught me the power of healing from the ground up. I live in Tucson, AZ with my family. In my spare time, I love to write stories that combine land, ancestors, and the sacred alchemy of the everyday. I acknowledge that my family resides on lands that are the territories of the Tohono O'odham Nation and Pascua Yaqui Tribe. I also acknowledge that the history of Tucson is deeply tied to the Camp Grant Massacre, a brutal massacre of Aravaipa Apache families. May there be healing and restorative repair on these lands. |
