Welcome. Bienvenides.
My name is Alicia (she/her/ella). I am a Chicanx psychologist. For the last 15 years, I have been exploring how to integrate Western psychotherapy with the Earth-centered, soul-honoring traditions of my ancestral roots. I combine my training in Western psychology with my roots in a kincentric worldview. Everything is connected and interdependent: mind, body, soul, spirit, ancestors, humans, land, plants, animals, fungi, insects, water, earth, air, fire, minerals, the cosmos—everything seen and unseen. Western psychology and neuroscience are just now beginning to catch up to Indigenous knowledge systems and recognize this interconnected reality. Why does this matter in therapy?
Our healing is collective. We are more than our individual lives. As a global community, we are navigating unprecedented challenges. The old ways of solving problems are entrenched in quagmires of oppression. Our healing and liberation require tending of our own body-mind-hearts, and also our ruptured connections to Earth, ancestral roots, soul, and each other. |
I practice therapy for the purpose of liberation. I support the neurodiversity paradigm and reject approaches that pathologize neurodivergence. I am committed to ongoing work to decolonize psychology, recognizing that, since its inception, Western psychology has excluded valid and vital knowledge systems of BIPOC communities. |
